Charging a T600 is extremely flexible. One can plug into any voltage between 100 and 250 volts and charge at any current up to 40 amps. A standard 10A receptacle will charge at a rate of 12 km per hour of charging. For short commutes this is fine. However, if you needed to charge from empty to go another 200 km, it would take 16 hours to fill the battery.
If a 40A receptacle is installed you can get about 50 km per hour of charging, so a full charge can be made in about 4 hours. The typical cooktop receptacle in New Zealand is 32A and provides 40 km per hour of charging, or a full charge in about 5 hours. This can be installed if you have a circuit breaker panel in your garage, for about $100 in parts.
The Tango has the charge portal internal to the car, so no wall-mount EVSE (Electric Vehicle Service Equipment) is necessary. However, if one wants to use one, the Tango also accepts charges from those units.
For the production Tangos we also plan to have quick charging ability as an option. This could provide 100 km of range in less than 1/2 hour. This option will depend on the availability of quick charger EVSEs.
“The significant problems we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.”
“The formulation of the problem is often more essential than its solution, which may be
merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skill.”
“If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5
minutes thinking about solutions.”
